Neat and intricate, these paper plants from PAPERSYNTHESIS are not in the same category as “artificial plants”. They exist in their own category as textured pieces of art, where paper has undergone transformation in the hands of Mabel Low, the paper gardener with a background in industrial design.

Four-leaf clovers bring a touch of green and whimsy to your desk

Mabel experiments with various 2D/3D designs and papers, with each flower and leaf going through several rounds of prototyping to ensure her plants “grow” the way she envisions. Using a wide array of tools and buckets of patience, she turns a variety of 160gsm paper stock into an ever-expanding nursery.

Pretty close to the real (virtual) flower in Animal Crossing! These flowers are part of a themed and customised series inspired by Animal Crossing flowers.

Besides buying a potted piece of art or an incredible bouquet from this paper floral studio, you can also learn how to make your own paper foliage.

Learn more about upcoming workshops with the friendly and talented Mabel Low here. Her next workshop is on 30 Oct at a bright and spunky cafe (most appropriately called A New Leaf) on Level 2 of Cineleisure, with many more lined up in future. All tools and materials will be provided.

Papersynthesis makes a variety of flowers and can be customised, but do order in advance as it takes time and care to make each flower. The Lavender, Baby’s Breath and Hydrangea, as well as all the foliage in this bouquet are all made from paper!

Mabel’s art reminds me of the need for patience, gentleness and consistency in achieving great things, just like crafting with paper.

Lovely pink succulent, one of many varieties available online.
